Penetration in attack is the ability to get past or behind defenders with or without the ball. With this technical tactical conditioned game, in front of the attacking goal, the aim is to have a penetrating ball put through to a striker for a shot at goal.
Zone A and Zone B are equal in size with the players restricted to playing in their zones. Players in both zones are restricted to a maximum of two touches but coaches should encourage ball and player mobility with 1 touch football. In Zone A we have a 3:2 attacking situation while in Zone B it is 2:2 with a goalkeeper. The ball can be passed between the zones however players cannot move and play outside of their zone. The game starts in Zone A with an attacking player receiving the ball from the coach and starting the exercise with a 1 touch pass to a supporting player in his zone. In this tactical game the two attacking players in Zone B are moving at diagonals to get away from their defender and create working space for a shot at goal.
Another advantage of this exercise is that the defending players fine tune their ability in pressing a player. After the shot or loss of possession the game restarts with a pass to an attacking player in Zone A. End the second half of the conditioned tactical game with free expression.
